The handover honoured the late Mr Martin Kekana, a former principal of the school
Threads for iKasi Foundation dedicated the day to Mr Martin Kekana, a former principal of Tshepisa Primary School, describing his leadership as having helped shape the school community. Announcing the handover the day before, the foundation put it plainly: the way to honour him was to continue the work he had given his life to.

The Transnet Foundation funded all 50 full school uniforms
The Transnet Foundation sponsored the handover in full. Confirming the visit afterwards, Transnet described the donation as part of the Threads for iKasi 1000 Uniforms Campaign, a programme aimed at restoring dignity and building confidence among learners in communities affected by socio-economic hardship.
Threads for iKasi Foundation thanked the Transnet Foundation for walking the journey with it and for investing in the dignity and the future of learners in Tembisa.

Tshepisa was the third school in the 1000 Uniforms Initiative
The 1000 Uniforms Initiative, also called 1000 Uniforms for Tembisa's Future, sets out to place full school uniforms with learners who need them. Eersterust High School received the first 50 uniforms on 12 February 2026, in partnership with Roots 182 NPO. Inxiweni Primary School received the next 50 on 27 February 2026. Tshepisa Primary School received a further 50 on 6 March 2026.
The Inxiweni and Tshepisa handovers were both sponsored by the Transnet Foundation, and both were dedicated to educators who had served the schools receiving them.
A full school uniform removes one reason to stay home
A learner without a proper uniform is visible in a way no child wants to be. Threads for iKasi Foundation runs the 1000 Uniforms Initiative on a simple principle: a full uniform lets a learner walk in dressed like everyone else, and that is what makes it possible to arrive, take part, and stay.
The campaign remains open to new sponsors
More schools in Tembisa are waiting. Individual and corporate sponsorships are open, and a company can fund a full school handover as the Transnet Foundation did at Tshepisa Primary School.
