26 School Jerseys Handed Over at Thuto ke Maatla Engineering School of Specialization

Fudumala's second stop in Tembisa this week was a school built around specialisation: Thuto ke Maatla Engineering School of Specialization.

On Thursday 27 August 2026, the Fudumala Ubuntu Challenge arrived at Thuto ke Maatla Engineering School of Specialization in Tembisa and handed over 26 sealed, labelled school jerseys to learners who had been waiting for them.

Earlier the same day, on the other side of Tembisa, a further 25 jerseys were handed over at Masisebenze Comprehensive School. That handover has its own story.

A technical high school named for the power of learning

Thuto ke Maatla, meaning learning is power, is a technical high school in Tembisa built around engineering specialisation. Its workshops train learners in Mechanical Technology, including welding and metal work, alongside Robotics, Electrical Engineering and Power Systems. It is the kind of school where a learner without a proper jersey feels the Highveld cold just as sharply as anywhere else, in a courtyard framed by welding bays and robotics labs instead of ordinary classrooms.

Fudumala asks sponsors to fund one school jersey for one learner who needs it

The Fudumala Ubuntu Challenge is a campaign with a simple, honest ask: sponsor a school jersey for a child who needs one. The name comes from the Zulu word for to warm up, and that is exactly what this campaign has always been about. Not just warmth from a jersey, but the warmth of a community that refuses to leave its children behind.

The 26 jerseys handed over at Thuto ke Maatla were not funded by one named sponsor. They exist because a number of people each sponsored one jersey at a time, over the past months. This handover is what that generosity looks like in practice.

26 charcoal-and-orange jerseys, supplied by ZS Uniforms

Each learner at Thuto ke Maatla Engineering School of Specialization received one school jersey in the school's own colours, charcoal with orange trim, carrying the school's embroidered crest. The jerseys were sealed and labelled for their recipients and supplied by ZS Uniforms.

Twenty-six learners walked away from Thuto ke Maatla that Thursday with more than just a jersey. They walked away knowing someone thought they were worth it.

Two Tembisa schools, one week, 51 jerseys

Thuto ke Maatla was the second stop, not the first. Earlier the same day, the team started at Masisebenze Comprehensive School, also in Tembisa, and handed over 25 school jerseys there. That handover has its own story, with its own photos. Between the two schools, 51 jerseys reached learners in Tembisa in a single week.
