22 On Sloane Mandela Day Partnership
Keeping the Mandela Day Spirit Alive
This Mandela Day, we were honoured to partner with 22 on Sloane, Africa's largest startup campus, to bring warmth, dignity, and opportunity to learners in Tembisa. Together we carried forward the spirit of service with the Fudumala School Jersey Drive, proving that small actions can have ripple effects across entire communities.
The Partnership
After 22 on Sloane's meaningful visit to Khensani Day Care, they chose to extend their Mandela Day efforts by joining forces with us and the Threads for Ikasi Foundation. Threads for Ikasi is led by one of their own alumni from the Township Digital Market Access (TDMA) Programme, making this collaboration even more meaningful.
Through this partnership, 50 learners at Emmangweni Primary School received brand new jerseys, made by Threads for Ikasi. The uniforms were produced by a local entrepreneur's foundation, showing how supporting small businesses can spark wider impact.
More Than Jerseys
At Fudumala we have always believed that a jersey is not just clothing. It is a symbol of pride, dignity, and belonging. For learners at Emmangweni Primary, these jerseys mean more than warmth in the classroom. They represent a chance to feel included, confident, and ready to learn.
Building With Purpose
What makes this initiative stand out is the model behind it. By working with 22 on Sloane and Threads for Ikasi, we were able to:
- Deliver tangible support to learners who needed it most
- Strengthen local entrepreneurship, with uniforms produced by a township-founded business
- Inspire others to see Mandela Day as a platform for ongoing community building
At 22 on Sloane, the focus has always been on empowering entrepreneurs who create change. This partnership shows how that mission connects directly to young learners and their futures.
Looking Ahead
The work does not end here. This jersey drive is part of a larger vision to scale support to more schools, reach more learners, and create long-term impact. Together with partners like 22 on Sloane and Threads for Ikasi, we will continue to invest in education, dignity, and opportunity for the changemakers of tomorrow.
Mandela reminded us that Mandela Day should be a day of service. Through this partnership, we lived out that vision in a way that connected children, entrepreneurs, and communities in one circle of Ubuntu.
